Astro
Astro
The symbolic grape variety of the Cinque Terre, in a combination of strength and persistence.
Astro tells us about the Cinque Terre and its most representative grape variety, the Bosco, whose essence is captured through the use of multiple containers.
Sweet and bewitching, this wine tells us about the Cinque Terre and its symbolic grape variety, the Bosco: rudeness and intransigence combined with care and love for the land. In addition to steel vats and terracotta amphora, we also use oak barriques for its vinification, which add a further gustatory dimension and contribute to smoothing out the roughness of the Bosco.
Structured and well-balanced sip that opens to the softness and complexity of multiple flavors - above all the Mediterranean herbs - that in the end lead back to the grape, in an unresolved symphony of subliminal sensations.
Astro is a wine that lends itself well to aging for 3-8 years and beyond.
All the vineyards face the sea, between 400 and 450 meters above sea level, and are cultivated on terraces reclaimed from abandonment using the methods and practices of biodynamic agriculture.
The white Astro 2022 is made with the three typical and autochthonous varieties of the Cinque Terre: Bosco, Vermentino and Albarola. After manual harvesting, the grapes are vinified and aged in Impruneta terracotta amphorae, steel vats and French oak barriques. The wine is blended only one month before bottling.
The yeasts and bacteria are indigenous and contribute to a spontaneous fermentation that does not use any type of additives during either vinification or aging, with the exception of a minimal addition of sulfur dioxide before bottling to ensure the wine's shelf life during travel and time.
The soils of the Cinque Terre are the result of an ancient dialogue between the earth, the sea and all the forces that inhabit these elements. The vocation of the territory for the cultivation of the vine is well-established, for centuries man has recognized in these soils, rich in trace elements, a unique terroir for wines of great quality.
The terraces are the most important landscape element of this territory that faces completely onto the sea. The soils are mainly formed by sandstone, i.e. compact or stratified sand. These are pedological formations in which the vine roots are destined to go very deep, even for several meters, finding a unique relationship with the elements of the earth. In the long dry summers, the roots find shelter in the deeper, more humid horizons of the soil, while in times of heavy rain, the same soils guarantee a great drainage capacity. The differences between the various individual terraces in terms of limestone, clay content and the depth of the bedrock build up the variability of the terroir of which the vineyard becomes the best interpreter, through the production of expressively polychromatic grapes from a taste and olfactory point of view.
